CAR WASH TIPS
We are often asked questions, that we consider have simple answers.  How do I remove this?, or what do I

VOUCHERS
do about that?  Well here is your chance to ask us.  Simply e-mail your question to questions@carvalet.co.uk

Q & A's
We will try to answer your question within 48 hours (or the next working day).      However, here are a few

carvalet shop
  questions that are commonly asked.

Can I use washing up liquid on my car without damaging it?
NO! is the short answer.   Washing up liquid is very damaging to your paint because it is highly alkaline -  This
means that it will fade or oxidise.      This can be fairly easily corrected with a good wash & polish or if more

serious a mechanical machine mop and some paint renovator
How often should I polish my car?
Well, that is the how long is a piece of string question.  It does depend on the vehicle, your usage and where
the vehicle parks for sustained periods.  However, we suggest at least once a quarter with a high quality wax
and regular use of a good quality wash wax solution should suffice.
What is the best polish to use?
Well that is fairly simple, though does depend upon why you are polishing.  If the paintwork is in good or fairly
good condition, then use a wax with a high carnauba content.   This can be checked via the manufacturer.
We would recommend Autoglym's High Definition Wax (Explained here), though there are other similar waxes
      on the market.
How do I remove vomit/urine and other spillages?
Well that is not so easy, but it is something we can do.   However, it is best not to attempt to remove it with
anything you have.     By doing so you make it more difficult for us to deal with the problem.     As with all
emergency issues, we will endeavour to get to you within 24 hours (working days of course). For more
      information just click here
I've left my windows/sunroof open and the rain water has flooded in?
Well, that is a common problem, especially in the summer as both the sunroof and the windows have been
opened during the hot day and then a sudden and unexpected downpour occurs.   Well, as with any flooding
of the interior, it is best to get us in as soon as possible to prevent very bad smells and potentially staining.  Our
specialist 'spillages' service is designed to deal with all those kinds of lovely problems.  For more information just

Do automatic/static hand car washes damage my car?
Yes, is again the straight answer.   With both automatic and  fixed hand car washes, not only is the quality
dubious, but also they are more than likely to damage your car.  Either, because it is a machine, it does not
know when to stop or if to stop and with a static hand car wash they tend to use cheap products and re use
the same sponges/bins/leathers for all parts of the car and VERY rarely will they empty the large container of
water.  This means that there is an accumulation of dirt.   It is also very unlikely that they have been trained
not to scratch you delicate and soft paint. Not so with us.  Our staff regularly clean all equipment, empty all
buckets, replace tools, sponges and leathers and have been fully Autoglym trained (for full details click here )

When my car goes in for a service, should I let the garage clean it?
That is a very personal decision and one based upon how you feel about the garage.  However, one way to
put your mind at rest is to ask to see the cleaners Certificate of Competence (For an example click here).  If
they do not have one, then you need to think very carefully about allowing them to clean your car.
Is regular valeting a good idea?
Oh Yes!  A regularly maintained car is proven to be worth more than a non maintained car when it comes to
re-sale/trade in.   Furthermore, it does make you feel so good when your car is cleaned  regularly properly - Try
it and see what we mean!
Is there a difference between shampooing and steam cleaning?
Well yes, actually there is.  Generally, shampooing relies upon the product to clean the fabrics and not the
temperature of the water.  Remember steam is just hot water and will cool.  Once cool, the entire area will
be sopping wet.   Therefore to stop mould and damage a steam cleaned seat/carpet/fabric area should be
removed. With all the safety issues this raises and the distinctly dubious quality issues, it is a much less successful
way of getting your fabrics cleaned.
Finally, is there a difference between valeting and 'detailing'?
Yes.  Firstly, detailing is an American term designed to differentiate between a personal house 'valet' (butler)
and a good (car) valet and secondly In most cases about double the  price!  Choose the right company and
specification  and you will get the same standard for a fraction of the price.
